Emir Kusturica’s second autumn Theatre festival in Mećavnik, 27-28 october, Nis support

October 11, 2017

The Autumn Theatre Festival, along with wintertime Küstendorf, springtime Book Fair and summertime music festival Bolshoi, rounds off the annual cycle of Emir Kusturica's festivals. The phrase “As though we are living in between-time”, originated by our distinguished writer Matija Bećković, is this year's slogan of the festival that pursues its founder's idea for Mećavnik to become synonymous with a synergy of energy and experience shared by young and accomplished artists. “My wish is for Mećavnik to increasingly become a cultural institution so the idea that each season has a festival of its own is, in fact, a dream come true with respect to the purpose of the place, similar to Andrićgrad. The aim of this house, this enthusiasm is to create, to stir the blood of the world as much as possible, without high ambitions because the world is changing in big shocks and with big changes. This, however, is still water, on those hillsides that until only yesterday were a godforsaken place and now, all of a sudden, attract world's greatest artists”, Emir Kusturica said in a theatre festival announcement. The festival selection was entrusted to young director Milan Nešković, who boasts many successful and award-winning plays that have been staged on Serbia's most distinguished theatres. NIS has been the general sponsor of the Autumn Theatre Festival for two years running. Supporting projects in culture, science and education, with a particular focus placed on tapping young talents, is among NIS' strategic goals pursued under the slogan “Future at Work”.
