Twenty-three pupils have been enrolled in the first grade in the new school year, while the second grade will be attended by fourteen pupils.

In order to ensure teacher development and to improve the quality of lesson delivery in the bilingual class, NIS has provided support and funds for the training of three teachers at the University of Nizhny Novgorod, which will involve an intensive Russian language course accompanied by the methodology of teaching Russian language.

Upon completion of the bilingual class in the Jovan Popović Elementary School, pupils may continue their education in the bilingual, Russian and Serbian class of the Jovan Jovanović Zmaj Grammar School in Novi Sad.

“Adaptation of the bilingual classroom instantly became one of my favourite projects simply because it is designed for the young ones, our future. The objective of the Energy of Knowledge programme, as part of which the project has been implemented, is to directly invest in young and talented people and indirectly in the future of Serbia via cooperation with schools and universities in Serbia,” Mr Andrey Shibanov stated.

“I am pleased that the successful cooperation of the Ministry of Education, Embassy of the Russian Federation and NIS has resulted in the implementation of this important project. NIS has provided a fine model of how companies and educational institutions in Serbia should cooperate,” Mr Milos Vučević, Mayor of Novi Sad said.

The bilingual classroom has been adapted as part of the Energy of Knowledge programme, within which NIS cooperates with schools and universities in Serbia.
