NIS Presents Energy-Related Achievements

May 8, 2017

Projects of NIS' were presented by Igor Korać, Deputy Director of the Energy at NIS, with Ljubinko Savić, Energy Expert of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Momir Antonić, the CEO of “Gas Tech”, taking part in the discussion. The projects of electricity generation in small power plants and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) were presented at a panel discussion entitled “Energy Efficiency – Projects for the Future”. These projects of NIS' were presented by Igor Korać, Deputy Director of the Energy at NIS, with Ljubinko Savić, Energy Expert of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Momir Antonić, the CEO of “Gas Tech”, taking part in the discussion. It was pointed out that NIS has 14 small power plants in oil and gas fields in Serbia. Their capacity is 14.5 MW, sufficient to supply as many as 20,000 households with electricity. Apart from cogeneration, NIS presented the production of Compressed Natural Gas, which is considered the fuel of the future. CNG is used as alternative fuel for vehicles as well as in industrial manufacturing. It is considered an environmentally clean fuel, since it leads to reduction in СО2 emissions and ensures better performance and greater safety for vehicles. “Energy is the segment in which NIS has continuously been investing and where we see our future. Small power plants are vital as they generate electricity and heat from gas that has not been utilised so far due to a high content of Carbon Dioxide and Nitrogen. Further, the process of converting the gas into electricity features an environmental component because it is no longer flared,” Igor Korać said. Ljubinko Savić emphasised that “green energy” is the branch upon which energy security is reliant. “NIS is a good example of a company that has evolved from an oil to an energy company in the last few years, and is now working in several areas. When it comes to cogeneration, NIS has been using a previously untapped resource which is now part of the energy balance. Projects like the ones implemented by NIS increase our energy safety, and that is crucial,” Savić underscored. Momir Antonić stated that Compressed Natural Gas is a fuel with many advantages over other fuels and there is a lot of room to increase its utilisation in the years to come.
