Serbian Prime Minister visits NIS Scientific and Technological Research Centre

Ana Brnabić, Serbia’s Prime Minister, visited today Scientific and Technological Research Centre (NTC) in Novi Sad, a subsidiary of NIS, which provides scientific and technological support to the company’s operations and it is a Centre dedicated to development and innovation.

Serbian Prime Minister has been welcomed at the Centre by Kirill Tyurdenev, NIS CEO, Vadim Smirnov, Deputy NIS CEO in charge of PR, and Nikolai Zalevsky, NTC director. They introduced Madame Prime Minister to the Centre’s principal activities and pivotal projects. In addition to that, Serbian Prime Minister was told of the novel oil and gas production technology implemented in the company, IT projects, as well as investments NIS made into Serbia’s education system.

Being a company that applies modern technology and innovation to its entire operation, NIS has been allocating significant funds for NTC development seeking to emerge a region’s hub catering to the needs of NIS, Gazprom Neft its subsidiaries, as well as provide service to third parties. So, €8 million has only been invested in the Centre and IT development. Among other things, the company outfitted a state-of-the-art oil and gas exploration and production laboratory and procured sophisticated IT equipment enabling fast and efficient processing of big data. Other than that, Serbia’s Government representatives were informed that since 2009 NIS has been involved in various socially responsible projects related to the development of educational infrastructure in Serbia and invested more than RSD 600 million, as well as that company cooperates with local and international educational institutions and provides scholarship to gifted pupils and students. Other than that, NIS firmly gives chance to young people, who graduate, so NTC employed more than 50 experts in the last 5 years alone.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić has commended NIS Company for investing into research and development, as well as for investing in Serbia’s education system, announcing Serbia’s Government ever greater cooperation with NIS in the future.

„Education and digitalization is Serbia’s Government central priority. With a view to make Serbia more competitive and to bring about a more dynamic and sustained growth in the future, we have to allocate much greater funds for education, science, research and development. This calls for tighter cooperation between education and science with business. Today, I got convinced that NIS Company’s Scientific and Technological Research Centre is a great example of cooperation with business and of a systemic support to smart, gifted and hard-working young people. Research and development projects may be “push” forward not only NIS, but Serbia’s entire economy“, Serbian Prime Minister said.

Business and market of any sector, energy in particular, require constant innovation, quick responses and, in the first place, experts with modern education to keep pace with or, even better, be ahead of their time. Now more than ever, creativity and knowledge give companies advantage. In the last 5 years alone, here we have taken aboard 50 young experts and invested €8 million in the Centre and IT development“.

“NIS-Naftagas“ Scientific And Technological Research Centre is a daughter company, 100% owned by NIS j.s.c. Novi Sad. It started as an independent entity within the Company in July 2012. In a bid to provide scientific and technological support to its operations and innovate them NIS set up NTC. NTC cooperates with local and international educational institutions, such as Belgrade’s Chemistry and Mining and Geology College and „Heriot-Watt“ University based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Centre also cooperates with international companies, such as „Schlumberger“, „Halliburton“, „Paradigm“. NTC’s most valued resource are its staffers. The Centre employs more than 300 staffers, including 6 Ph.Ds, 15 staffers holding a M.Sc. degree and 52 staffers holding a M.A. degree.
